GRANTS AWARDED

ILLINOIS ARTS COUNCIL INDIVIDUAL ARTIST PROJECT GRANT, VISUAL ART, 2010

Awarded for the research, application, and exhibition of traditional glue/chalk gesso and panel supports in oil painting, culminating exhibition held at Belle Plaine Studio in Chicago 2010.

ILLINOIS ARTS COUNCIL INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS FELLOWSHIP, VISUAL ART, 2002

Awarded for monotyped prints from water-soluble inkjet glossy photo paper emulsion and prismacolor. The imagery featured digitally reconfigured interiors from screencaptures of homes for sale. Imagery in this series brought forth unseen psychological dramas that were implicit in what was then a new style of marketing photography with a highly distorting fisheye lens.

ILLINOIS ARTS COUNCIL INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS FELLOWSHIP, VISUAL ART, 2000

Awarded for digital manipulation of traditional black and white photography printed as monotype. Imagery showcased trees that grew in the margins between human development and uncontrolled natural growth; the trees as subjects of individual portraits were partially compromised by human encroachment in the environment and their wounded nature was explored visually.

ARTS MIDWEST /NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS REGIONAL ARTIST’S FELLOWSHIP, WORKS ON PAPER, 1994

Awarded for exploration of a new printmaking process using photocopies as plates in the vein of lithography through traditional photography, digital imaging, and large scale photocopying. Watertowers were the subject of this body of work and were approached as portraiture; they were stylized to make visible different metaphors of the vessel.

NAP GRANT, CITY OF CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS, CHICAGO, IL 1994, 1993, 1992

Awarded to support work as an artist-in-the-school with Chicago Public School elementary students as they created and painted murals for their school (1992), explored art history through recreation of artifacts from Ancient Egypt (1993), and wrote and illustrated giant storybooks for their school library (1994).

CAAP GRANT, CITY OF CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS, CHICAGO, IL 1992, 1991

Awarded to support work with translating digital imaging to traditional relief/woodblock printmaking processes through reductive woodcut methods.
