Watertower Series
I learned about the xerox gum print process during a Southern Graphics Council conference, and thought it held some interesting possibilities for dealing with a number of b/w photos I had been taking of watertowers and other industrial structures in the early 90’s. It was a great way to mix the old technology of printmaking with the new one of image manipulation without being bound to conventional ideas governing color separation on the computer. Since there was no color information to begin with, the plates had a sketch-like quality when I drew them, and by stacking a variety of them via the press they produced an image that gradually came back into focus.
